Exercise

It’s the most universally dreaded topic of clients I see. They always know they should do it but just don’t. Even though I teach exercise classes and personally enjoy exercise, I get it. If you didn’t grow up in a home where exercise was part of your family’s life, you probably don’t exercise now or at least struggle with it. It’s cultural. But it’s also one of the most important prescriptions for a healthy body and mind. I don’t need to quote the endless and ongoing scientific research showing the benefits of exercise for every person, every condition, every fitness level and every disease. The right exercise regimen is always healing! A little exercise is better than none, and usually the more you exercise, the more impressive the health benefits.

I won’t try to convince you to exercise because only you can do that. But I’ll write about it, maybe to inspire you enough to move a little (or a lot?) more. I’ve been an AFAA-certified group fitness instructor for 10 years, with additional certifications in barre and Zumba. AFAA requires continuing education credits to renew the credential every two years. I’ve taught dance fitness, step, strength training, and barre, while cross-training in other formats in other instructors’ classes to keep up with fitness trends. Although my first love is choreography and strength, I have a growing interest in injury prevention and the use of exercise to prevent or treat depression, especially in the elderly. Like most, I am on a fitness journey throughout life, with a motto to never stop learning!

I created some playlists on my YouTube channel for clients who have injuries or conditions that prevent regular exercise, or who currently don’t have time to go out and exercise: Nancy’s YouTube Channelย — the goal is to move no matter what your limitations.
