The Worst Sugar Cravings!

September 1, 2026September 1, 2026Leave a comment

You crave a donut and an iced mocha latte during the day, and then you can't stop thinking about double-fudge brownies or Cherry Garcia ice cream late night. Guilt sets in, "Why can't I stop eating all these sweets?" Patients I see who say this often sound resigned, like it's just genetic or they have … Continue reading The Worst Sugar Cravings!

Take a Break From Eating?

August 12, 2026August 12, 20264 Comments

I'm disturbed by some health stats: In the U.S., obesity rates increased from 30% of the population (which we already found shocking back in 1999) to the current 40%. Researchers predict that by the 2030s, 50% of Americans could be obese. About 21% of adolescents have obesity. That rate quadrupled in the past 50 years. … Continue reading Take a Break From Eating?

Loneliness and Social Connections

February 8, 20252 Comments

There's been growing research on the negative health effects of chronic loneliness and poor social connections. Some studies compare its consequences to that of smoking, with a strong association of higher rates of cardiovascular disease, depression, and early death as well as quicker cognitive decline. Firsthand I've seen the dramatic benefit of social connections with … Continue reading Loneliness and Social Connections

Let’s Talk About Sugar

December 22, 2023February 21, 2024Leave a comment

Sugar is still in the doghouse in the nutrition world. We understand the undeniable connection of soda and sweetened beverages with obesity, especially childhood obesity. Eating a lot of refined sugary foods or drinks on a regular basis is associated with not only weight gain but type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and of course … Continue reading Let’s Talk About Sugar

The Pros & Cons of Intuitive Eating

April 19, 2023April 24, 20236 Comments

If you’re not yet familiar with the term, it's likely you've at least heard of intuitive eating (IE). IE is a non-diet approach toward food choices based on internal cues, whether they are physical, emotional, or other influencers. The basis is to recognize and respond to signs of hunger and fullness. Because the practice is … Continue reading The Pros & Cons of Intuitive Eating

My Fave Top 3 SM Influencers

August 21, 2022April 19, 2023Leave a comment

And they just coincidently happen to be Asian. Honestly, I don't seek out Asian influencers! But since the pandemic started I've been surfing more on social media channels and keep coming back to these three. Maybe like others, I have a love-hate relationship with SM. I gave up Facebook about five years ago because I … Continue reading My Fave Top 3 SM Influencers

Dietitians can be weird - what brings us joy 😂 Have intense sugar cravings? Maybe the day starts with a donut and iced caramel coffee, followed by afternoon Kit Kats, and Häagen-Dazs ice cream with cookies after dinner... then guilt sets in. What's the fuss about low-carb 🤔 My coworker's 4 week old new puppy Tucker 🥹🧡❤️ ...reminds me to wind down for the weekend, let go of work, and enjoy our blessings! Take a break from eating! 🍽️ Are you always snacking between meals? Do you graze right before bed? Could look at this all day 😵‍💫 The @mitmuseum was beyond my brain capacity but a nice Sunday afternoon outing (free parking), open until 5pm and tasty eateries all around 😋 Super impressed with @pressedcafe 👉Newton/Needham line. Big menu, plenty of vegan and lower-carb options, huge space with energetic vibe, and staff were amazing. Fast, attentive, constantly walking around checking on people. It's fast casual but with waitstaff! I'm not Catholic but appreciate both the immenseness and minuteness in detail in their churches. Some call it too ornate but really even the most grande are only a speck of God's magnificence Even as a dietitian and diabetes educator, I was perplexed. Realized that diet, exercise, and body size were only part of it.
